Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan Warns OpenAI Over Data Collection Practices
Japan warns ChatGPT: On Friday, the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan reprimanded OpenAI, which provides the ChatGPT app and is supported by Microsoft, for collecting user and third-party data in the machine learning process. The commission announced that it had warned OpenAI about the collection of user and third-party data for its machine learning process.
According to a press release, the commission on Thursday instructed OpenAI “not to collect personal information that requires special care from ChatGPT users and other parties.” It warned the watchdog it may take “additional steps” if it found more problems.
Before the Group of Seven (G7) leaders summit, when Fumio Kishida chaired the discussion on international artificial intelligence legislation, OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman visited Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April and revealed a plan to extend services in the nation.
