Former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad criticises the India cricket board for refusing to host the Asia Cup in Pakistan in 2023, telling them to “go to hell.”
Following the announcement by the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah that India would not be sending a team to the 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan, the Pakistani cricket authorities hinted in October of last year that they might not take part in the 2023 World Cup in India. Pakistan reacted to Shah’s announcement that the event would take place in a neutral location by expressing concern that it may “split” the world cricket community.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) voiced worry that Shah’s remarks would have an effect on their ability to compete in the World Cup and other ICC competitions in India in the future. In response, veteran Pakistani cricketer Miandad claimed that if India didn’t want to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup, they could “go to hell” and that the ICC should enforce a single norm for all nations.
“Furthermore, I have always maintained that we don’t care if India doesn’t want to come. They have the right to go to hell. On the other hand, our cricket is progressing well.” To control such things is the responsibility of the ICC; otherwise, having a governing body is pointless, Miandad stated when addressing the media.
India and Pakistan, while being rivals, have not faced off on each other’s home turf since 2012 and only participate in international competitions on neutral grounds. The ACC’s Executive Board meeting will decide definitively where the Asia Cup 2023 will take place next month.
