US President Biden and Vatican Representative Discuss Russian Invasion of Ukraine and Deportation of Ukrainian Children
Biden Discuss Ukraine War: According to the White House, US President Joe Biden and a Vatican representative spoke on Tuesday about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the deportation of Ukrainian children.
“The White House statement reported that Biden and Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi discussed the Vatican’s support for the repatriation of Ukrainian children who were forcibly deporting.” They also discussed the papacy’s efforts to provide “humanitarian aid to address the widespread suffering caused by Russia’s continuing aggression in Ukraine.”
Pope Francis requested that Zuppi, the archbishop of Bologna and head of the Italian Episcopal Conference, visit the White House, according to the Biden administration.
Only the second Roman Catholic to hold the office of president of the United States, Biden also expressed “his wishes for Pope Francis’s continued ministry and global leadership and welcomed the recent nomination of a US archbishop as cardinal,” according to the White House.
