Kamran Akmal, a wicketkeeper and batsman, has announces his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Tuesday, Kamran claimed he is now concentrating on new positions with the Pakistan Cricket Board in a news conference here (PCB).

In response, Kamran, who was selected to the national men’s selection committee together with Yasir Hameed and Mohammad Sami with Haroon Rashid as chairman, said: “Obviously, I won’t be playing cricket longer due to new positions in PCB.”

Kamran also refused to assign blame for his exclusion from the cricket team.

He has been serving as Peshawar Zalmi’s batting coach for a week.

The batsman last participated in an international game in 2017 in the West Indies, where he represented Pakistan in 53 Tests, 157 ODIs, and 58 T20Is.

Umar Akmal had already expressed optimism about his brother Kamran’s performance in the role of national men’s team selector.

Speaking on Saturday, Umar asserted that Kamran has extensive knowledge of cricket and will give players fair opportunities.

“Kamran has always treated me and the other cricket players with great kindness. He said, “Everyone learns from him.

“I have no doubt that he will give players fair opportunity. I wish him well,” he continued.

Shahid Khan Afridi, a former Test cricketer, supported the PCB’s selection of Kamran as head of the committee to choose players in trials for the U13, U16, and U19 regional and district teams.

Furthermore, Speaking to a local television station, Afridi suggested that Akmal would become a brilliant junior level selector.

However, “Kamran is sincere and diligent. He seems like a great pick for choosing junior-level athletes, in my opinion. He is bold and will not take any pressure in selection of players,” he said.
