Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases file a petition in Islamabad High Court.

Nawaz Sharif’s bail petitions: Amjad Pervaiz, a seasoned attorney, would present petitions in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday (today), according to reports.

In the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases, accountability courts found Nawaz Sharif guilty.

Nawaz Sharif received a 10-year prison sentence in the Avenfield case, along with an eight-million-pound fine, and a 7-year sentence in the Al-Azizia case from the Accountability Court.

Nawaz Sharif had also been disqualified by the court for serving in public office for ten years.

The Islamabad High Court’s division bench heard Nawaz Sharif’s appeals against the judgements. On June 23, 2021, the court denied his petitions for failing to show up in front of the high court because of his extended stay in London.

“Earlier statements from PML-N sources indicated they would file petitions in response to the Islamabad High Court’s ruling.”

According to sources, the petitioner will plead to appear in court while requesting protective bail.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted appeals and overturned the punishment imposed in the Avenfield reference case by an accountability court, exonerating Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar on September 29 of last year.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was found to have failed to establish its case, and the jury found that Maryam Nawaz and Capt. Retd. Safdar’s sentences were unfair.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani and Aamir Farooq, who composed the jury, rendered their decision.
