Meta launch monthly subscription: To support the growth and community building of content creators, Meta Platforms announced on Sunday that it is piloting a monthly membership service called Meta Verified. Users will be able to authenticate their accounts using a government ID and receive a blue badge.

The subscription bundle for Instagram and Facebook, which will go live later this week, will start at $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on Apple’s iOS system and Android. It also provides additional security against impersonation.

This week, Meta Verified will be made available in Australia and New Zealand, with incremental rollouts in additional nations to follow.

After Twitter’s announcement last month that Twitter Blue will cost $11 per month, Meta has entered the world of subscription services.

The CEO of the social media behemoth, Mark Zuckerberg, previously announced plans to introduce a number of new products that would “empower artists to be significantly more productive and creative,” but he also raised concerns about the expense of maintaining the technology for a huge user base.

The messaging app Telegram and Snapchat, both owned by Snap Inc., both introduced paid membership services last year as a new revenue stream.
