Miftah Ismail, a former finance minister, submitted his resignation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and declared his retirement from active politics due to changes made to the party’s organisational structure.
Miftah Ismail resigns: He stated, “Given the impending reorganisation of the party structure, I think it’s time for me to make official what is already true and move on,” in a letter to PML-N General Secretary and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
Therefore, “I tender my resignation as General Secretary of PML-N Sindh and also resign from all party committees.”
He expressed his gratitude to the party’s leadership for giving him roles in both the party and the government.
“Party chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and President Mian Shehbaz Sharif have always been extremely gracious and considerate to me. They have my undying gratitude for their confidence and support.
He continued by saying that several top PML-N figures throughout the years have shown him a lot of kindness, including Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Ayaz Sadiq, Pervaiz Rasheed, and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The letter said, “I cannot express my gratitude to all of you for your friendship and leadership.” “Although I won’t participate in electoral politics any longer, I share your strong desire to see a Pakistan that is socially just, economically stable, and well-run.”
Ismail has long advocated for significant reforms in Pakistan, including population control, the sale of state-owned businesses that are losing money, and the renovation of the education system.
He has spoken at many educational institutions across the nation, asking for a revitalization of the recent years’ severely stressed economy.
Ismail first assumed the position of finance minister in 2018 and delivered the budget for 2018–19.
Ismail supervised the restart of a vital International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme that had been put on hold during his first stint as Pakistan’s finance minister in 2022.
