During a live performance on Monday in Chembur, Mumbai, the Indian musician Sonu Nigam and members of his crew were attacked.

According to accounts from national news organizations, the musician was attacked by the selfie-obsessed son and nephew of Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Phaterpekar while he and his entourage were attending an event given by the latter in the Mumbai suburbs yesterday.

The miscreants attempted to enter the stage during Nigam’s performance to grab pictures, but they were stopped by his bodyguards and security officers. As seen in the widely shared video on social media, the situation deteriorated and they attacked the singer and his staff as he was departing.

The musician was injured in the altercation but is recovering after being taken to a local hospital, Zen. One of his close advisors and a bodyguard were also hurt.

According to reports, the musician complained to the Bombay police about the occurrence, and a case was opened against the suspect under sections 323, 341, and 337 of the Indian Criminal Code.

Sonu Nigam described the attack to the media in the following words: “After the concert, I was walking down from stage when a man named Swapnil Prakash Phaterpekar grabbed me. He then shoved my bodyguard Hari and the man who had come to save me, Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s son Rabbani. Suddenly I tripped over steps.

He continued, “I filed a complaint so that people should consider forcing selfies and generating a commotion.
