“The United Nations reported that intense Israeli bombardments in reprisal for Hamas attacks had forced more than 423,000 people in the Gaza Strip to leave their homes.”
423000 People Displaced In Gaza: “On Friday, the UN humanitarian organization OCHA released a statement reporting that the number of internally displaced people in Gaza had increased by 84,444 persons, reaching a total of 423,378 people as of late Thursday.”
Israel made the revelation as it continued to bombard the Gaza Strip in retaliation for Saturday’s unexpected attack, which was the worst since the nation’s founding in 1948.
Hamas militants indiscriminately killed more than 1,200 people as they marched through tiny villages, kibbutzim, and a music festival in the desert, bringing roughly 150 hostages into Gaza.
In retaliation, Israel bombarded Gaza, a 2.3 million-person enclave with air and artillery assaults that destroyed structures and killed more than 1,400 people.
Additionally, Israel has made preparations in case a ground assault into Palestinian land occurs.
In its update, OCHA noted that “heavy Israeli bombardments, from the air, sea, and land, have continued almost uninterruptedly.”
“During the past 24 hours, military forces targeted and destroyed multiple residential buildings in densely populated areas.”
According to the report, more than 270,000 persons, or two-thirds of the displaced, have sought shelter in UNRWA-run schools for Palestinian refugees.
While more than 153,000 people sought refuge with friends, neighbours, and in other public spaces, another almost 27,000 people fled to Palestinian Authority-run schools.
“OCHA had estimated that some 3,000 people had already been displaced within the enclave before the Saturday attack.”
“Gaza Bombing Campaign’s Devastating Impact on Residential Buildings and Infrastructure”
Data from the Gaza Ministry of Public Works and Dwelling reports that a bombing campaign has damaged 752 residential and non-residential buildings, totaling 2,835 dwelling units.
It said that an additional 1,800 dwelling units had sustained damage that was irreparable and rendered them uninhabitable.
The considerable devastation of civilian infrastructure damaged by the bombardment alarmed the UN agency as well.
Educational facilities have suffered hits and damage, with at least 90 of them affected, and one school has been completely destroye. These facilities include 20 UNRWA schools and 70 schools managed by the Palestinian Authority.
OCHA stated that they targeted and destroyed eleven mosques, while seven churches and mosques sustained damage.
It added that since hostilities started, air strikes had damaged six water wells, three water pumping stations, one water reservoir, and one desalination facility that provided water to more than 1,100,000 people.
