former Irish cricketer Catherine Dalton joined Multan Sultans as their fast-bowling coach on Tuesday, she made history as the first female coach in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Multan appoint Catherine Dalton as coach: Dalton also made history by becoming the first woman to coach a top-tier men’s fast-bowling team. Later today, the official announcement of her appointment will be made.
Catherine Dalton, a 30-year-old English-born citizen who obtained Irish citizenship in 2015, has since represented Ireland in four WODIs and an equal number of WT20Is.
She has worked with several local pacers, including Mohammad Ilyas, Sameen Gul, and Arshad Iqbal, as well as several Under-19 athletes during her two visits to Pakistan.
Notably, Catherine Dalton has had coaching jobs at the national fast-bowling academy in the UK and the Ultimate Pace Foundation in India. She is an England Cricket Board (ECB) qualified Level 3 Advanced Coach.
Dalton told ESPNcricinfo, “I am really delighted to be officially signing up with the franchise during the PSL. I worked in Pakistan with some of the Multan Sultan players on two prior tours.
“I’m aware of the historical significance of a female fast-bowling coach holding a position with a significant men’s T20 franchise. I am incredibly grateful for the chance and can’t wait to maybe contribute to changing things on several levels.

Ali Tareen, the owner of the Multan Sultans, expressed her happiness at hiring Catherine Dalton as his team’s fast-bowling coach.
“For almost five years now, Catherine has been a part of our player-development programme. I have firsthand knowledge of how she has enhanced players. I’ve always known that she would excel as a fast-bowling coach, Ali Tareen said.
“And I am so glad that her first opportunity came at the Sultans,” he continued.
It should be noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the ninth PSL season’s dates last month. The season is scheduled to take place from February 8 to March 24.
