The ‘incomplete’ Gulistan-e-Johar Underpass was officially opened on Monday by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
Murtaza inaugurated incomplete Underpass: The underpass has a length of 1.1 kilometres and a width of 18.5 metres. The length of the ramp coming from Pehlwan Goth’s side is 848 metres.
The subway’ construction, which would cost Rs 1 billion, will start in March 2023.
To make the subway more attractive, the administration added LED lights to it and underneath it. Murtaza Wahab hailed the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former chief minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, and Nasir Shah for their support during his remarks at the inauguration ceremony.
The opening of the underpass, according to the mayor of Karachi, was crucial for repairing the service lane surrounding the project. Additionally, he promised to work without bias for the city’s improvement.
As the then-foreign minister and chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, opened the Zia Moheyddin at Johar Chowrangi earlier in March to ease the area’s chronic traffic congestion.
The flyover features double arm poles with LED lights installed on its 226-meter-long bridge. The flyover is 461 metres long and 18.2 metres wide. The underpass is still being constructed even though the flyover has been finished.
