Naveen-ul-Haq to retire from ODI cricket after ICC World Cup 2023

Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq made the announcement that he would give off one-day international cricket following the completion of the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023, which will start on October 5.

Naveen-ul-Haq retire from ODI cricket: Naveen, who is 24 years old and made his ODI debut in 2016, announced the news. He has played in seven games for Afghanistan.

In his statement, Naveen-ul-Haq said, “It has been an absolute privilege to represent my country. I would want to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the conclusion of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey for my country in t20 cricket.

“I would like to thank [Afghanistan Cricket Board] and all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” he continued. “It hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision.”

Naveen-ul-Haq last played an ODI match for Afghanistan in 2021, and the team initially omitted him from the ICC World Cup in 2023.

In January of last year, he announced that he was taking a vacation from the 50-over format, and as a result, Afghanistan hasn’t selected him since.

After that, he was selected for the Afghanistan team to compete in the ICC World Cup in 2023. He will play in their pace attack alongside all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, Abdul Rahman, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

In his brief ODI career, Naveen-ul-Haq took 14 wickets at an average of 25.42, with his best bowling stats of 4/42 coming against Ireland in 2021.

Following exhibition matches against South Africa on September 29 and Sri Lanka on October 3, Afghanistan will begin their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign against Bangladesh on October 7.
