Neelum Jhelum Hydropower project resumes power generation

Must Read

The Neelum Jhelum Hydropower facility has resumed energy production after being out of commission for more than a year thanks to the rehabilitation of its tail race tunnel.

Jhelum Hydropower project resumes: Under the guidance of the departing Minister for Water Resources, Syed Khursheed Shah, the 969-MW Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project located near Muzaffarabad underwent rehabilitation.

He also looked over the tunnel and praised WAPDA, the project team, the consultants, and the contractors for their efforts to restart the project’s electrical generation.

Syed Khursheed Shah declared the regularisation of the project’s contract workers at the time.

It is important to note that WAPDA began corrective action right away by giving a contract to a Chinese construction company after requesting permission from the Federal Government.

In April 2018, the 969 MW Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project began producing electricity. Before the tail race tunnel collapsed last year, the project had produced more than 18 billion energy units for the national grid.
