The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a 15-day deadline to the power distribution businesses (Discos) to enhance their performance and provide a report.
NEPRA asks Discos to improve performance: A news release indicated that “NEPRA will conduct a hearing after three weeks to evaluate the performance of DISCOs.”
NEPRA heard the proposal from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPAG) regarding the monthly fuel adjustment costs of Rs2.07 per unit for the month of July. However, the CPPAG changed its request for a per-unit rise due to the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) from Rs2.07 to Rs1.57 during the hearing.
The authority requested that the CPPGA submit a performance report of coal power plants and questioned why the cost of producing energy with coal was greater despite a decline in coal prices.
Authorities discovered that certain expensive power units were operational due to the limited capacity of Gatti and other grids over the past few years.
The authorities asked the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) to submit a report detailing the reasons for not increasing the capacities of Gatti and a few other grids.
Additionally, NEPRA ordered the DISCOs to take action to halt electricity theft and reduce line losses
