ISLAMABAD: As a result of the monthly fuel costs adjustment (FCA), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs1.90 per unit.
Nepra okays hike in power tariff: In the month of August, this cash will be collected from the customers.
Aside from lifeline consumers and KE users, all consumer groups would be affected by the increase in electricity rates.
The hike in power prices will burden the already taxed masses with an additional Rs23 billion. They are already grappling with the challenges of growing inflation and a sluggish economy. This increase further adds to their difficulties in making ends meet.
Separately, as a result of changes for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2022–23, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) increased electricity tariffs by Rs. 1.25 per unit yesterday.
This cash will be collected from customers over the course of three months, from July to September 2023.
However, The increase in electricity prices would impact all consumer groups, except for lifeline consumers and KE users. Further, The rise in prices would have widespread effects on the general population, adding financial strain to households and businesses alike. The burden of higher electricity costs would be felt by a broad range of consumers across the board.
