“Newly Elected Karachi Mayor and Deputy Mayor to Take Oath Today Amidst Controversy”
Murtaza Wahab, the newly elected mayor of Karachi, and Salman Murad, the newly elected deputy mayor, are scheduled to take the oath of office today at the Gulshan Jinnah Polo Ground in Karachi. Ijaz Anwar Chauhan, the Sindh Election Commissioner, will administer the oath at the ceremony, which is set to begin at 5 o’clock.
In a closely contested election between Jamaat-e-Islami and the Pakistan People’s Party, Wahab and Murad were chosen on June 15. JI had a dark day in protest after accusing the PPP of electoral malfeasance. They also complained in writing to the Pakistani electoral Commission (ECP) about alleged electoral fraud.
PPP, on the other hand, rejected these allegations and urged JI to obey the city’s order. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised the result, viewing Pakistan People’s Party PPP’s victory as evidence of the Sindh people’s support for their leadership.
However, It’s interesting to see that over 30 PTI members choose not to cast a ballot. Furthermore, Wahab defeated Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, who received 160 votes, with 173 votes.
