The Over 40s Cricket Global Cup will begin tomorrow with a curtain-raiser match between the USA and hosts Pakistan Veterans.
40s Cricket Global Cup: On Monday, the tournament’s trophy was unveiled at a neighbourhood hotel in Karachi. Fawad Ijaz, the chairman of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), then gave a news conference.
A significant veterans’ cricket competition is being hosted in Pakistan for the first time ever, according to Fawad Ijaz. “International teams are all given tight security,”
When questioned about the tournament’s name, he emphasised that it was changed to Global Cup in response to ICC’s opposition.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) objected to the tournament’s original name, “World Cup,” so we modified it to the Global Cup, which is approved by the ICC, he continued.
Fawad Ijaz also clarified the reason the Indian team isn’t competing in the competition.
For Indian sportsmen, obtaining a visa might be challenging, he said.
Teams from Australia, the West Indies, Canada, Hong Kong, the United States, and the UAE will compete in the competition. There will be 36 games played over five different venues in Karachi. All of Pakistan Team’s games will be held at National Bank Stadium.
Pakistan Veterans, which includes notable players Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami, Abdul Razzaq, and others, will be captained by former captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
Misbah-ul-Haq also spoke with the media and shared his enthusiasm for returning to international cricket.
Misbah-ul-Haq stated, “Playing international cricket again is a fresh experience, but playing 45 overs would be hard.
“It’s good for Pakistan that the tournament is being organized here.” “Fans love to see their stars in action again,” he continued.
