Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani stated that the current Indian leadership is commit to maintaining India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, suppressing the “fundamental rights” of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan and OIC support for Kashmir cause: The acting minister focused on Indian excesses in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which have significantly increased under the Modi government, while speaking at a press conference in Islamabad with the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Special Envoy on Jammu and Kashmir Yousef Aldobeay.

“The curbs on the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Kashmiri people remain persistent,” Jilani stated. The Hurriyat leadership has been “incarcerated arbitrarily,” he claimed, adding that the overall number of arrested political activists and human rights advocates is close to 4,000.

The dignitaries highlighted Yasin Malik, a Kashmiri leader sentenced to life in prison last year, along with Shabbir Ahmed Shah, and the increase in state crimes since 2019.

“On August 5, 2019, India took unilateral and unlawful acts that started a new chapter in tyranny. The OIC has underlined its unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their righteous struggle, according to Jilani, who said that the ultimate goal of these actions is to turn the Kashmiri people into a powerless minority in their own country.

Jilani emphasised the importance of putting into effect the international resolutions passed on the matter in order to ensure a long-lasting resolution and expressed Pakistan’s sincere thanks to the OIC for its ongoing and unwavering support for the cause of the Kashmiri people.

The visiting dignitary emphasized the OIC’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of the Kashmiri people.

“OIC Members Criticize India’s Actions in Kashmir, Express Solidarity with Kashmiri People”

On behalf of all OIC members, he called out the “illegal steps” taken by the Indian government in August 2019 and demanded their reversal.

Aldobeay addressed the Kashmiri people, saying, “We are with you…support every activity which is your right,” and thanked Pakistan for continuing to work to uphold the rights of the occupied people.

The two leaders had a meeting in Islamabad before the presser. According to Aldobeay, the OIC delivered a thorough report on the Kashmir issue.

The Kashmir issue is one of the most urgent threats to the security and stability of the region, according to Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, who also warned that failure to resolve the issue will increase instability in the region at a meeting of the OIC held in September alongside the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The OIC Contact Group stated in a statement that it asked the international community to “intensify its efforts to resolve the issue of Jammu and Kashmir” based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions during the ministerial meeting on Wednesday.

By dropping the baseless accusations against the Kashmiri leadership and calling for the repeal of all oppressive legislation, it sought the release of all political prisoners in Kashmir.
