Wikipedia services have been blocked in Pakistan by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) because its sacrilegious content has not been removed.

People from various parts of the nation have reported being unable to access Wikipedia. However, no official notification has been made by the authorities regarding this issue. The absence of a notification has led to confusion among the people. The notice “This site can’t be accessible” displays on the screen whenever someone attempts to browse Wikipedia.

The PTA blocked Wikipedia’s services for 48 hours due to sacrilegious content. This change occurred days after the halt. Additionally, it issued a warning that Pakistan would block the site for non-compliance.

According to the PTA’s Feb. 1 announcement, Wikipedia was contacted about restricting or removing the aforementioned contents by issuing a notification in accordance with applicable law and a court order (s). A hearing chance was also given, but the platform didn’t take advantage of it by removing the offensive material or showing up in front of the PTA.

“Wikipedia services have been degraded for 48 hours with the directive to block/remove the reported items,” the PTA statement states. “Given the purposeful failure on behalf of the platform to comply with the directions of PTA.”

However, Wikipedia’s services will only be resumed if any reported illegal content has been blocked or removed. According to regional laws, PTA is dedicated to providing all Pakistani people with a secure internet experience.
