elections likely in February 2024: According to sources familiar with the situation, the election commission will probably announce the calendar for the general elections after December 2023.

According to ECP officials, the election calendar would be released 54 days after the delimitation process is over.

Additionally, the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) has begun talking to the country’s major political parties about the impending general elections.

To choose a schedule for the nation’s impending elections, the electoral watchdog has chosen to engage the heads of the major political parties.

The letter mentions that meetings will address subjects including constituency delineation, updates to the electoral roll, administration of general elections, and scheduling of elections.

CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja had previously decided against meeting the president and had sent him a letter.

According to the letter, the Election Amendment Act does not need consultation regarding the election schedule, although the ECP respects President Arif Alvi.

When the administration dissolves the assembly, the president may declare the election date, but the ECP is free to do so on its own, the letter stated.

It’s worth mentioning that President Arif Alvi convened a conference on Wednesday to determine the date of the general elections and extended an invitation to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
