The Line of Control (LOC) should remain a zone of truce between Pakistan and India, according to US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
Pakistan India maintain ceasefire on LOC: In a press conference, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that terrorism has had a long-standing negative impact on Pakistan’s population.
He said that the US is aware of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, including the capture and conviction of Sajid Mir. He noted that Pakistan participated in the Counter Terrorism Dialogue 2023.
Additionally, Matthew Miller urged Pakistan to maintain its ban on terrorist organisations, and the US maintains regular contact with Pakistani authorities.
According to a representative for the US State Department, President Joe Biden also brought up the subject of human rights with India during his news conference.
Pakistan summoned the US deputy chief of mission to the foreign office and lodged a protest against the US-India joint statement released after a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) summoned the US Deputy Chief of Mission this evening, as stated by the foreign office spokesperson. The spokesperson added that a demarche was made to him concerning the June 22 US-India Joint Statement.
The White House statement noted that both Modi and Biden expressed strong condemnation of cross-border terrorism, the use of terrorist proxies, and urged Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure that it does not use any territory under its control to launch terrorist attacks.
However, The joint statement had stated that “President Biden and Prime Minister Modi reiterated the call for concerted action against all UN-listed terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujhahideen.”
