More than 12 hours after the breakdown, Energy Minister Khurram Dastgir announced on Monday night that work had started to restore electricity nationwide.

According to Dastgir, certain areas of Balochistan and Islamabad have power starting to come back.

The outage in Pakistan, caused by “frequency fluctuation” in the national grid, had earlier been predicted to be resolved by 10pm, according to the ministry.

Dastgir told Reuters that the grid should be completely operational by 10pm, adding, “We are trying our very best to achieve restoration before that.”

In a televised speech, the minister said that there had been a widespread power outage in the nation and added that workers were trying to get the power back on.

The North-South transmission corridor had an unexpected voltage and frequency fluctuation around 7:34 this morning, which had an impact on the national grid’s system frequency and resulted in a widespread breakdown.

Although he claimed that the nation’s transmission system remained unaffected, he said that electricity was necessary to start up power plants and dams.
