Following a convincing victory over Hong Kong in the second quarterfinal of the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Competition on Tuesday, Pakistan Shaheens advanced to the semifinals.
Pakistan Shaheens defeating Hong Kong: Pakistan defeated Hong Kong by 68 runs to advance to the tournament’s semifinals, with Pakistan’s bowling lineup dismissing Hong Kong’s batting lineup for 92 runs in the 19th over.
Four batters were sent back to the pavilion on a duck, leaving six batters without double digits.
Babar Hayat continued to lead Hong Kong in scoring with 29 runs, but no other batter was able to stay in the crease.
In his four overs, Khushdil Shah captured three wickets while giving up 13 runs. Each of Qasim Akram, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Arafat Minhas grabbed two wickets.
The Shaheens, who were batting first, lost a few early wickets and then continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Pakistan only added 54 runs in the ninth over, and at one point they were down five wickets.
However, all-rounder Aamir Jamal’s blazing innings of 41 runs off 16 balls, which included four maximums and two boundaries, enabled Pakistan to a respectable total.
He continued to lead the national team in runs scored. Asif Ali and Arafat Minhas each scored 25 runs as Pakistan set Hong Kong a goal of 161 runs.
