The opposition boycotted the meeting after tearing up the agenda sheets, and the treasury benches of the Punjab Assembly voted in favour of Chief Minister Parvez Elahi.

The province’s chief executive took the confidence vote after the Lahore High Court (LHC) ruled that the governor could summon the chief minister to request house trust during a session.

Earlier today, the court ruled that for a candidate to be elected as chief minister, they must receive support from 186 MPs.

Punjab Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Raja Basharat moved a motion for Parvez Elahi to be elected chief minister and he was elected chief minister with 186 MPAs.

The opposition abstained from the meeting, claiming that the order of confidence in Punjab Governor Baligh-Ur-vote Rehman was still pending.

Today, Pervaiz Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, proposed a vote of confidence by MPAs from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Punjab Assembly reconvened Wednesday night to vote on the confidence of CM Pervaiz Elahi after finishing the required MPAs.

Raja Basharat and Mian Aslam Iqbal, both PTI MPAs, put the proposal up for a vote today.

According to PTI MPA Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, 187 lawmakers will back the Punjab CM today.

Despite the federal government’s tactics, PTI and its allies finished the Punjab Assembly numbers before the vote of confidence.

The Punjab Assembly was fortified in advance of the protest by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). Before voting, security guards the speaker’s dice.

Following the submission of the resolution, the PA secretary provided voting instructions.
