Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Holds Productive Meeting with IMF Managing Director on Collaboration and Economic Prospects
PM Shehbaz meets IMF Managing Director: During the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact held in Paris, France, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif actively engaged in a meeting with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). They discussed ongoing programs and collaboration between Pakistan and the IMF.
On May 27, 2023, the Prime Minister reminded Ms. Georgieva about their most recent phone chat and informed her of Pakistan’s economic prospects. The Prime Minister described the actions the government has taken to promote stability and economic prosperity. He emphasized that the Government of Pakistan had completely committed to upholding its obligations as outlined in its agreement with the IMF and had completed all earlier actions for the 9th Review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
The IMF’s EFF funds have been allocated, and the prime minister underlined the desire for their prompt distribution. This will relieve Pakistan’s citizens and support Pakistan’s ongoing attempts to stabilise its economy.
Additionally, The IMF Managing Director discussed the current evaluation process from her organization’s point of view. The meeting gave us a good chance to evaluate our progress in that area.
However, Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination; Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs; Marryam Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting; Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue; Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the PM; and Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to France, attended the meeting.
