The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the date of the general election.
PPP demands ECP announce election date: According to information, PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi stated that the party wants free and fair elections held on one day throughout Pakistan.
He urged an immediate release of the election timetable and emphasized that the ECP should not delay the announcement of the polling date.
The PPP leader asserted that they find it incomprehensible for any transfers or postings to occur prior to the election schedule and delimitation procedure. They emphasized that the caretaker administration should conduct the elections in a free, fair, and transparent manner to ensure their unquestionable legitimacy, the leader added.
Rana Sanaullah, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and a former interior minister, had declared that the next general election would take place in February 2024.
In preparation for the general elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) gave directives to the interim administrations on Tuesday.
In order to provide a level playing field for all candidates and political parties in the next general elections, the ECP gave instructions to the caretaker governments at the national and provincial levels, according to the state news agency.
Additionally, According to the election monitor, it was constitutionally mandated by Article 218(3) of the Constitution to organise and conduct elections in a fair and honest manner.
Additionally, the ECP gave instructions to the interim governments at both the national and provincial levels to work with it to hold elections within the bounds of the law. Furthermore, “This requires observing all notifications, instructions, and rules set forth in Section 230 of the same Act.”
