President Dr. Arif Alvi gave the Price Control, Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding (Amendment) Bill his blessing.

Alvi signs price control Amendment Bill into law: According to a press release from the President Secretariat Press Wing, the bill intends to further revise the Price Control, Prevention of Profiteering, and Hoarding Act of 1977.

In accordance with Article 75 of the Constitution, President Alvi approved the amending measure.

The bill states that any dissatisfied manufacturer, dealer, or importer may submit an appeal to an appellate committee within three working days following the Controller General’s decision.

The committee comprises the federal secretary of the division responsible for industries, two federal secretaries nominated by the Cabinet Division in the case of the Federal Government, and an appeals committee composed of three provincial secretaries, including the secretary of the relevant department responsible for industries, established by the chief secretary of the respective province or district as applicable.

Earlier, Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar gave the law enforcement and customs authorities stern orders to prevent the smuggling of goods like sugar, urea, petroleum products, agricultural products, and other items.

During a meeting on the prevalence of smuggling of various goods around the nation, particularly in border regions, officials informed PM Kakar about the measures put in place to address the problem.

“Government Takes Decisive Action Against Smuggling and Reviews Institutional Performance”

The acting prime minister ordered the writing of an interagency report about the provincial officers involved in this act.

He ordered his department to take tough departmental action against the Balochistan smuggling officers and to punish them severely.

The country’s foreign exchange reserves are being put under pressure by the smuggling of petroleum products, the premier continued.

Additionally, PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar announced that he will preside over a weekly meeting to assess institutional performance and address the smuggling problem.
