KARACHI – Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was granted a two-week bail on Thursday by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), in a case brought against him for his alleged involvement in the death of renowned Supreme Court attorney Abdul Razzaq Shar.
PTI chairman gets bail in lawyer’s case: The decision was handed down by a division bench that included Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC.
The top SC lawyer was assassinated earlier this week on Airport Road, close to Quetta’s Alamo Chowk. When Shar was attacked, according to the police, he was on his way to the Balochistan High Court. The attorney was shot 15 times and passed away immediately.
A case was filed against the PTI after the murder for his alleged complicity.
Separately, a panel presided over by Chief Justice of the IHC Aamer Farooq has reserved judgement on eight bail petitions brought by the leader of the PTI. Six of the cases concern the rioting on May 9, while a seventh involves a murderous attempt.
Imran’s attorney, Inteza Panjotha, asked with the court during today’s hearing to grant his client protective bail for two weeks. He recalled that the PTI leader had previously made similar requests.
After hearing the arguments, Justice Farooq reserved his ruling on Imran’s petitions. However, he did mention that the appropriate order would be issued in this case.
The PTI leader will appear before a court in the federal capital. The court deals with counterterrorism matters, and the purpose of the appearance is to request bail in several instances.
