The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secretary general Asad Umar.
Asad Umar arrested: After discovering deliberate involvement of the former prime minister in the misuse of the confidential document, the FIA’s counter-terrorism wing conducted an investigation that resulted in filing a case against him. A no-confidence motion led to the removal of the former prime minister from office in April of last year.
A cypher investigation led to the apprehension of Asad Umar, a former federal minister, in Islamabad.
Earlier, authorities detained Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former foreign minister and vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), at his residence in Islamabad.
The FIA’s main office detained and took Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the PTI, into custody in connection with the Cypher case.
Azam Khan, a former principal secretary to the PTI chairman and former prime minister, presented shocking accusations and asserted that the former PM used US cypher for his “political gains” and to fend off a motion of no-confidence against him.
Khan, who had been “missing” for months prior, unexpectedly showed up in front of the scene and made shocking admissions regarding US cypher while recording his statement under the CrPC 164 before a magistrate.
The PTI leader stated that they released a leaked recording of the former prime minister and his adviser Azam Khan discussing a US cypher on September 28 of last year.
Azam Khan is heard telling the former prime minister Khan about the contentious diplomatic cable in the reported call.
