de Kock retire ODI cricket after World Cup: Cricket South Africa announced the news in a post on the social media website ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter).

Shortly after unveiling their 15-player World Cup 2023 roster, which included Quinton de Kock, Cricket South Africa (CSA) released the news.

Since making his ODI debut in 2013 against New Zealand, the 30-year-old wicketkeeper has played 140 games for South Africa. In the format, he scored 5966 runs at an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 96.08. He has 17 hundreds, 29 fifty-sixes, and a career-high 178 against Australia in Centurion in 2016.

In addition, he captained South Africa in eight One-Day Internationals, of which they won four and lost three.

With the help of four half-centuries, Quinton de Kock scored 450 runs in 17 games at an average of 30 throughout his participation in two ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2019.

Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe commented on Quinton de Kock’s decision to stop playing in ODIs, saying: “Quinton de Kock has been a tremendously excellent servant to South African cricket. He was an important member of the team for a lot of years and set the standard for attacking batting.

He also wore the captain’s armband, which is a position of dignity held by only a select few.

We want to thank him for his service over the years and we understand his choice to retire from ODI cricket. Although we wish him well in the future, we still want to see him play for the Proteas in T20I cricket.

On October 7 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, South Africa will play Sri Lanka in the tournament opener.
