“Developments and Strategies Surrounding Gandhi’s Potential Reinstatement and Opposition’s No-Confidence Vote”
On Friday, the leader of the Congress in the lower house of parliament, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, expresse optimism that Gandhi would be reinstate in time for a vote of no confidence against Modi. The opposition introduced this vote in parliament this week due to concerns about the administration’s handling of the outbreak of ethnic violence in the north-eastern state of Manipur, a situation that has resulted in over 140 casualties.
Although the opposition lacks the opportunity to win the parliamentary vote, where the BJP maintains a commanding majority, its purpose is to pressure Modi into addressing the Manipur crisis, a politically sensitive topic he has avoided discussing publicly.
