Israeli airstrikes on “civilians” in two Gaza refugee camps prompted Hamas militants to launch a volley of rockets at Tel Aviv on Thursday, according to the Palestinian organisation.
Rockets fired at Tel Aviv: Hamas, referring to its military branch, texted journalists, saying, “Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades fired rockets at Tel Aviv in response to (Israeli strikes) targeting civilians in Al-Shati and Jabalia camps.”
On Thursday morning, AFP reporters saw a large number of airstrikes take place during a 30-minute period in the north and in the direction of the Al-Shati camp.
Iyad al-Buzum, spokesman for the Hamas interior ministry, told AFP that “the occupation (Israeli forces) committed massacres this morning in Al-Shati camp and Jabalia camp, leaving dozens of martyrs and injured.”
AFP journalists observed at least seven dead bodies and the demolition of six buildings in the Al-Shati camp.
After the Islamists launched a major attack on Israel on Saturday that resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people, Israel has started a ruthless aerial campaign against Hamas militants in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
According to Hamas leaders, Israeli airstrikes in the coastal Palestinian enclave have resulted in another 1,200 deaths.
