The election of the first female deputy speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan’s legislature without opposition brought a surge of change in the country.

Sadia Danish elected deputy speaker: Following agreement between her party and the forward bloc of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which backed her nomination, Sadia Danish, a leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and nominee of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), assumed the seat.

On Monday, the GB assembly duly elected Danish as the deputy speaker, thereby bringing an end to the election process. Speaker Nazeer Advocate, who oversaw the 22nd session of the legislature, then gave the oath of office to her.

On the other hand, the PTI did not file any nomination paperwork for the position. They had previously replaced its speaker with its deputy speaker as speaker of the GB assembly by initiating a resolution of no confidence against him.

The speaker presided over the assembly meeting before the significant event.

From 2009 to 2014, Danish served in the British government’s cabinet in addition to being a member of the GB parliamentary assembly.

In addition, she has served as a minister for communications, tourism, sports, and culture. She also served as the PPP’s communication secretary and a National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) member.

Last week, Gul Bar Khan, the PTI forward bloc leader, emerged as the next chief minister of GB after the controversy tainted the election for the top position.

Khan was elected without opposition after receiving 19 votes from the 20 members of the house who were in attendance. Three other candidates who had filed nomination papers withdrew them.

Nawaz Khan Naji, an independent lawmaker, chose not to participate in the vote, and the PPP and PML-N supported the new chief minister.

The PTI’s “like-minded group” of 11 people boycotted the election, alleging fraud.
