Saudi prince and Palestine’s Abbas discuss Gaza situation: The Saudi crown prince gave Abbas the assurance that his country supports the Palestinian people’s fight for fair treatment and enduring regional peace.

The crown prince emphasised the importance of observing international humanitarian law and refraining from targeting civilians while reasserting that Saudi Arabia is in contact with all international and regional parties to make every effort to halt the current escalation and prevent its expansion in the region.

Mohammad bin Salman spoke with the president of Palestine about the matter and then called the leaders of Egypt and Jordan to establish a plan of action to diffuse the situation.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) emergency meeting failed to take any action to resolve the ongoing Middle East conflict sparked by a surprise attack by Palestinian fighters on Israeli border towns. Israel retaliated with lethal airstrikes on Gaza, bringing the death toll to 1,100, but the UNSC meeting was ineffective.

Diplomats claim that the United States pressed the 15 members of the Council to denounce vehemently “these heinous terrorist attacks committed by Hamas,” but not all of the members complied with the request.

The U.N. Security Council must vote unanimously in order to issue a statement.
