COAS Gen. Asim Munir was welcomed by the Saudi crown prince, who also serves as the country’s prime minister, at his winter camp in the city of AlUla.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) stated on Monday that Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman discussed measures to improve bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The two leaders talked about “a variety of areas of shared interest” in addition to bilateral ties, according to the state news agency.

Since January 4, COAS Gen. Asim Munir has been traveling on business to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On January 10, he is anticipated to return to Pakistan.

This is his first official travel outside of the country since becoming army chief.

According to the ISPR, the army commander would meet with senior authorities from both nations during the week-long tour to address issues of common interest, military-to-military cooperation, and bilateral relations with a focus on security-related issues.

Gen. Munir was granted access to the Kaaba’s doors.

Munir did Umrah during the visit, during which the Kaaba’s doors were opened for him.

Gen Munir and a few other persons could be seen leaving the Holy Kaaba in a video that was uploaded to Instagram. The commander of the army was dressed in all-black.
It was stated that in an act of unprecedented hospitality, the Kaaba’s doors were opened for the top general. A Hafiz-e-Quran named Gen Munir offered prayers inside the Kaaba.

In another video, the army leader is seen being escorted by Saudi security officers. He enters Masjid-e-Nabwi (SAW), the second holiest mosque in Islam.

Change of leadership at GHQ

In November of last year, a ceremony was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Gen Munir succeeded Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as commander of the Pakistan Army.

Gen. Munir assumed charge as the 17th army commander.

In 1986, Gen. Munir received a commission in the 23rd Frontier Force Regiment. He completed the prestigious Mangla 17th Officers Training Course and received the coveted sword of honor.

He served as the quartermaster general at the General Headquarters before taking over.
