The Election Commission of Pakistan is preparing to file an appeal in the case of the delayed election with the Supreme Court. Hearings in the case will begin on August 31.
SC take up ECP appeal in election case: A three-judge panel comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, and Justice Muneeb Akhtar will hear the case.
The court instructed to hold elections for the dissolved Punjab Assembly on May 14.
The polls didn’t happen, though, since the ECP petitioned for a review.
Following the dissolution of the assemblies it controlled, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf made the upcoming elections in Punjab and KP a contentious topic.
Despite the president setting a date and the process taking months, elections were never conduct.
The Supreme Court bench hearing the case had divisions as a result of the case, and several judges separated from one another.
Elections had been oppose by the ECP and the government for administrative reasons.
