A district court in Islamabad granted pre-arrest bail to Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in a case related to the violence that occurred on May 9.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi gets bail: Syed Haroon Ahmed, an additional District and Sessions Judge, heard the complaint filed at Khanna Police Station against the PTI leader.
Qureshi, a former finance minister and vice chairman of the PTI, was not present at the scene of the incident, according to the attorney’s testimony before the court during the hearing.
The attorney also claimed that Shah Mahmood Qureshi had been targeted by the police despite a lack of verifiable evidence.
The court accepted Qureshi’s request for bail and granted the PTI vice chairman pre-arrest bail after taking into account the defence team’s arguments.
Protests
Violent confrontations erupted throughout Pakistan after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader into custody on May 9.
The party workers’ agitation over the detention of their chairman led to the organization of rallies in both remote and populous places. Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad summoned the armed forces to ensure peace and order.
During a protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, army installations and the residence of the corps commander in Lahore came under attack.
