Shah Rukh to make history with two $100mn films in single year

As his most recent film, “Jawan,” is on the verge of surpassing the $100 million barrier on Wednesday, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is on track to become the only Bollywood actor to deliver two $100 million-grossing films in a calendar year, according to Indian Express on Wednesday.

Shah Rukh make history in single year: His previous movie, “Pathaan,” broke box office records and made more than $120 million globally.

Nearly two weeks after its debut, his smash hit “Jawan” appears on track to quickly beat the all-time record of “Pathaan,” which was $65 million domestically. “Jawan” previously broke the record for the highest single-day gross for a Bollywood film.

Together, the two films have now made over $296 million worldwide.

Since its release over two weeks ago, the Atlee-directed film Jawan, which also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, and Deepika Padukone, has broken numerous records. The movie became the first Bollywood production to surpass the $12 million, $24 million, $36 million, and now the $60 million milestones with the largest opening day and biggest opening week.

Khaleej Times reports that the Bollywood movie “Dangal” ended its worldwide theatrical run with an astounding total of $250 million, maintaining its title as the highest-grossing Hindi movie in history.

Bollywood has been slowly reviving box office hits from this year, such as “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” and other films, after the pandemic nearly wiped it out and consumer viewing habits changed due to the development of streaming services.
