Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a former prime minister and prominent member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), described the current National Assembly on Wednesday as “the worst in the history of Pakistan” and expressed sorrow for participating in it.
Abbasi terms current NA worst in Pakistan’s history: Addressing the reporters in front of the parliament building, he state, “Today is a moment of rejoicing because the people of Pakistan have been save from this assembly.”
The former premier did not hesitate to take responsibility for his participation in what he called “the worst assembly in Pakistani history.”
“I beg the people’s pardon for participating in this assembly. We all contributed to its formation, he continued.
He emphasised that history would ultimately judge the decisions made at the time. “History will determine our accomplishments. The populace has lost everything and endured extreme suffering. Only MNAs received universities.
Responding to the recent detention of the former prime minister Imran Khan, he expressed that he is not in favor of putting the PTI leader in jail. Nevertheless, he also mentioned that if Imran Khan is innocent, justice will ultimately prevail for him.
He advised the former prime minister to take some time to reflect on the decisions he made that ultimately resulted in his imprisonment.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Announces National Assembly Dissolution Plans Amid Caretaker Regime Discussions”
The National Assembly’s final session was in progress when Abbasi made his remarks. Furthermore, In his speech, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that he will tonight send President Arif Alvi a summary to dissolve the National Assembly.
In a previous interview with a private news channel, he mentioned that if the president did not address the summary within 48 hours, the enactment of the summary and the dissolution of the NA would occur in accordance with the legislation.
Regarding the caretaker regime, the PM indicated that they are currently engaging in discussions with coalition parties to determine an impartial interim prime minister who would receive support from the general populace.
Additionally, After settling on the names, he said, he would hold the first meeting with Opposition Leader Raja Riaz. The choice would be made together.
All political parties, according to PM Shehbaz, are in favour of holding elections as soon as possible. Further, plan to dissolve the National Assembly by the premier would prematurely end the government’s term, thereby opening the door for a caretaker setup to take control following discussions with the opposition leader.
When the assembly is dissolved, PM Shehbaz and opposition leader Raja Riaz will conduct final negotiations to choose the caretaker prime minister.
