Ubisoft has presented the inaugural trailer for their latest open-world offering, Star Wars: Outlaws, set within the timeframe of the original Star Wars trilogy. This reveal occurred during the Xbox Games Showcase, sparking considerable buzz among Star Wars devotees.
With this game, Ubisoft, acclaimed for the Assassin’s Creed series, embarks on its first journey into the vast Star Wars cosmos. Outlaws spins a narrative-driven tale between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with players stepping into the shoes of Kay Vess, a shrewd rogue planning a game-changing heist in the perilous criminal underworld.
Although the trailer remained mum on gameplay specifics, Ubisoft assures players of an action-laden journey with known and new characters and planets from the Star Wars galaxy. Enthusiasts can anticipate additional footage during the Ubisoft Forward event later today.
The slated launch of Star Wars Outlaws is in 2024, with availability on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The collaboration among Ubisoft, Lucasfilm, and Disney for this project was first announced in 2021.
Ubisoft’s Swedish subsidiary, Massive Entertainment, famous for games like The Division series, Far Cry 3, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations, leads the development. Concurrently, Massive is also developing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, based on Disney’s massive franchise.
However, Ubisoft faces challenges amidst the decline in open-world games’ popularity and the company’s critique for some lackluster Assassin’s Creed sequels. Still, executing daring heists in the expansive Outer Rim is expected to thrill fans.
Furthermore, the Star Wars franchise is witnessing a gaming renaissance with recent gaming triumphs like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Star Wars: Outlaws, backed by the force, seems set to carve its niche in the gaming world.
