The pricing and supply of sugar have been steadily returning to normal after the caretaker administration launched a comprehensive crackdown to prevent the smuggling and stockpiling of necessities.

Sugar price goes down: The government has also prepared prize money (cash reward) in accordance with its policy for those citizens who would submit information leading to the identification of individuals involved in the smuggling and hoarding.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Ministry of Interior have established up a toll-free number for this reason so that people can call and provide the necessary information against the individuals engaged in unlawful activities that hurt the national economy, according to the state news agency.

The federal and provincial governments have undertaken operations in a number of cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and Dera Ismail Khan, in an effort to stop hoarding. These operations led to the confiscation of sugar that had been stocked illegally.

The district government in Rawalpindi sealed 13 godowns in Tayyaba Market and Rattaamral and conducted raids on other illegal warehouses to take stern action against sugar hoarders. During these operations, authorities seized more than 1,000 sugar bags, each totaling 50 kilograms.

The administration sealed five stores in the Dalgaraan and Naswar Bazaars for storing sugar. The Daraband Road godowns in Peshawar were where the district administration discovered 311 tonnes of sugar bags.

In Quetta, the sugar mafia is the target of a significant crackdown, as evidenced by the local administration’s recovery of 250 tonnes of sugar and 750 tonnes of urea fertiliser last night on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

To prevent the manufactured shortage and illegal sale of sugar in Faisalabad, the district administration raided sugar storage facilities within the city’s revenue limits.

The Punjab government and the proprietors of sugar mills in Lahore arranged to sell the product for Rs 140 per kilogramme.

The local government in Dera Ismail Khan carried out raids on the designated godowns on Daraband Road, recovering 5,000 bags of sugar in the process. During another raid, authorities seized 650 sacks of hoarded sugar from the Maryali supermarket.

Meanwhile, a representative for the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) claimed that there were enough inventories of sugar accessible across the nation at a controlled price.

According to him, sugar costs Rs 147 per kg for ordinary consumers and Rs 101 per kg for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) participants.
