ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Tuesday approves the resignations of 35 PTI MNAs who had resigned following the vote of no confidence against former prime minister Imran Khan in April last year, amid growing hostility between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government.

Several influential PTI members, including former economic affairs minister Hammad Azhar, former defence minister Parvez Khattak, former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry, former planning minister Asad Umar, and former climate minister Zartaj Gul, submitted their resignations to the NA speaker.

Sheikh Rashid, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), submitted his resignation, which the speaker also accepted.

It should be mentioned that after Imran Khan’s government was overthrown by a motion of no confidence in April of last year, around 131 PTI MNAs collectively tendered their resignations.

“ECP de-notifies lawmakers immediately,” it says.

The 35 MNAs who were members of the previous ruling party were subsequently de-notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
