Following talks between Ankara’s top diplomat and Ukrainian officials last week, Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, will host his Turkish colleague for a two-day visit starting on Thursday, according to a statement from Moscow.

Turkish foreign minister visit Russia: Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, will shortly travel to Russia to meet with Vladimir Putin to discuss restoring a pact that would permit grain shipments over the Black Sea in safety.

Lavrov and Hakan Fidan would talk about “the situation in the region, particularly in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, and Transcaucasia,” the spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, Maria Zakharova, told reporters.

Erdogan has attempted to enter the two sides into formal peace talks using his good relations with Moscow and Kiev.

A deal to export grain from three Ukrainian ports across the Black Sea was the first significant accord that the warring parties have struck since the crisis began last year, and Turkiye, a member of NATO, assisted in its negotiation.
