On Tuesday, PML-N leader and leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz suggested two candidates for the job of caretaker Punjab CM.
For the position of caretaker Punjab CM, the PML-N leader forwarded the two candidates’ names Syed Mohsin Akhtar Naqvi and Ahad Khan Cheema to Governor Balighur Rehman.
Hamza also disapproved of the candidates put out for the position by departing CM Pervaiz Elahi.
The change occurred as a result of discussions the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier today regarding the interim chief minister of Punjab with senior PDM members.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), officially suggested three candidates to governor Balighur Rehman on Monday for the position of interim chief minister of Punjab.
Moonis Elahi, the son of the chief minister, posted the letter on his official Twitter account.
Someone also suggested the names of Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, Nasir Mahmood Khosa, and Muhammad Naseer Khan for appointment as caretaker chief minister of Punjab in accordance with Article 224(1A) of the Constitution.
These candidates’ identities were revealed by Elahi a day prior, stating that “Imran Khan has offered three names for interim chief minister.”
The PML-Q and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) jointly chose these possible candidates.
“Elahi said that he likely will choose one of the PTI-proposed choices as the caretaker CM, and he will forward the names to the governor.”
Finally, Governor Rehman requested the nomination of a unanimous caretaker chief minister in letters to CM Elahi and the leader of the opposition, Hamza Shehbaz, following the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.
“We have invited the opposition leader and chief minister to submit names for the interim chief minister within three days of receiving the letter, by January 17 (today).”
