Ukraine Claims Successful Defense Against Russian Cruise Missiles Targeting Airbase in Khmelnytskyi Region

Ukraine Downed 13 Cruise Missiles Overnight: A total of 13 cruise missiles fired by Russian forces overnight against an airbase in Ukraine’s west, Ukraine claimed Friday, were all shot down.

“On June 23, thirteen cruise missiles fired by the occupiers were destroyed. This time, a military airfield in the Khmelnytskyi region was the target of the attack, according to a statement on social media by the Ukrainian air force.

Amid escalating tensions, Russia launched multiple waves of aircraft assaults involving cruise missiles and attack drones during the winter months. The relentless attacks prompted Kyiv to urgently appeal to its Western allies for bolstering its air defense systems.

Recognizing the need to counter the Russian aggression, Ukraine sought increased support and cooperation from its partners. The aim was to enhance the capabilities of its air defense systems to effectively thwart such aerial threats.

The continuous assaults served as a stark reminder of the volatile situation, highlighting the importance of preparedness and collective defense measures to safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Four Tu-95MS bombers conducted the launches around midnight from the Caspian Sea, as stated by the air force.

Oleksandr Symchyshyn, the mayor of Khmelnytskyi, claimed explosions in the pre-war population of roughly 275,000 town while praising Ukrainian air defence systems.

However, Ukraine reported that they downed a Russian reconnaissance drone overnight.
