Authorities in Islamabad have removed a number of street vendor carts that were established by the previous administration. Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI and a former prime minister, reacted angrily to the news, criticising the current administration for destroying the street vendor carts. In this video of I-10 operation it can b e seen how authorities are removing vendor carts and business.
Imran Khan posted images of street vendor carts that have been disassembled in the I-10 area of Islamabad on Twitter. The fact that the carts were given to street vendors as part of PTI’s Ehsaas Rehribaan initiative is pertinent to mention.
The Ehsaas Rehribaan programme was started by the previous administration with the goal of encouraging poor and tiny pedlars to participate in the economy. The effort had broken up the shopkeepers’ monopoly. Those had previously received substantial rent from street sellers on a monthly basis. And PTI given them protection from anti-encroachment laws.
However, it appears that the sellers’ wares were dispersed across the road and their carts were destroyed in what may have been an anti-encroachment operation. However, the PML-N administration was criticised by the PTI Chief for focusing on the underprivileged.
“At a time when unemployment and inflation are on the rise. This imported administration once again displayed its callousness by demolishing street vendor carts. That were provided by PTI government as part of the Ehsaas Rehribaan programme in Islamabad’s I-10 sector. Undoubtedly its a Condemnable barbaric crime that intentionally targets the weak and underprivileged, Imran Khan wrote on Twitter.
